In terms of outdoor spaces, the J.R. Alford Greenway is one of Tallahassee’s most popular parks. With more than 17 miles of multi-use trails, this park offers a wide variety of activities to satisfy every type of nature lover including cyclists, runners, horseback riders, hikers, and dog walkers. There is ample parking available at the entrance to the park where visitors can enjoy the gorgeous view of the wide open greenway. The open terrain contains a crushed oyster shell path that can be followed into Tallahassee’s iconic and naturally wooded forests. Another entrance, located to the right of the greenway, will lead you to the magnificent Lafayette Heritage Trail. Unpaved, this trail will send you past a short span of large trees and over a gorgeous, wooden boardwalk styled bridge, built high above the railroad tracks with gorgeous views overlooking Piney Z Lake. Past the bridge, the path becomes unpaved again and shaded with enormous trees.

The well-maintained paths are great for both moderate hikers and cyclists. Another way to explore J.R. Alford Greenway is on horseback or mountain bikes. The trail is also teeming with diverse types of wildlife, especially a variety of native bird species and deer. J.R.
