Magnolia Trail

The Magnolia Mountain Bike Trail is a 4.3-mile dirt trail for intermediate riders; however, there are sections of trails well suited for beginners and advanced riders wanting more challenges. This single-track trail lies inside of Tallahassee’s expansive Tom Brown Park, which is located between Mahan Drive and Apalachee Parkway. Here, narrow chutes typical of trails in this region wind their way up, down, and around steeply pitched hillsides in an intricate fashion. European mountain biking teams chose these trails as their training base for the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. They said they were “harder and more technical” than the actual Olympic course.

This trail was designed to be ridden at various skill levels. This looped trail meanders through the woods and around a pump track named “Kudzilla”. There is also a more difficult section christened “Wally World” in the northwest portion of the trail. This trail can be linked with Fern Trail (to the west) and Cadillac / Lafayette Heritage trails (to the east) for a day of enjoyable off-road cycling. Many of the more challenging aspects are side-trails that are purely optional, and choosing your speed and angle carefully can allow you to adjust the difficulty; however, don’t be too conservative or you’ll miss out on the high-banked turns, thrilling up-downs, and plunging drops that make this trail so unique.

Featured Uses: Hiking, trail running, cross-country running, and mountain biking. Off-leash dogs can use the nearby fenced dog park.
