Lafayette Heritage Trail
Trail runners, water-sport aficionados, wildlife lovers, and mountain bikers can find something in common at Lafayette Heritage Trail Park. It offers multiple trail and terrain choices. Trails within the park include the Lafayette Heritage Shared-Use trail, Cadillac Mountain Bike trail, and a paddling trail. The shared-use trail makes for a quiet hike through beautiful woodlands on Tallahassee’s east side, connecting Lafayette Heritage Trail Park and Tom Brown Park. Along the trail, visitors can observe wildlife such as turtles, alligators, and native birds.
The trail’s dirt path curves around Piney Z Lake, where you’ll find fishing piers and a boat launch. However, gasoline powers are not permitted on Piney Z. On the trail’s eastern end, a beautifully constructed pedestrian bridge over the CSX railroad tracks connects the trail to the J.R. Alford Greenway. On the trail’s west end, you can connect to Goose Pond Trail, which crosses through Tom Brown Park. The park entrance is found at the east end of Heritage Park Blvd. in the Piney Z Plantation subdivision. There, you will find a small parking lot with picnic shelters, a trailhead and bike wash, a small playground, and restroom. Water fountains are available at the trailhead and at the playground.
Featured Uses: Trail running, jogging/walking, mountain biking, kayaking, canoeing, boating, and bird watching. Leashed dogs are permitted.
